Set Up Your Computer for VTISP.com Internet Access

IMPORTANT: Please remember that your Username ends with @vtisp.com.

For example, if you selected "johndoe" as the first part of your Username, then your complete Username would be johndoe@vtisp.com. In order to connect to the Internet, you must include the "@vtisp.com" ending or you will not be able to connect.

The instructions below are for computers with Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, NT, XP, or Vista.  If you use any other system (or if you prefer to set up a Windows connection manually), please refer to your operating system manual for instructions on how to set up a standard dial-up connection. Or you can find manual setup instructions for Windows, Macs, and Linux at the following informational web site:  http://www.netfaqs.com

If you have any questions, please click here to visit our Contact page.

Note:  It is best to print these instructions.  Also, as you go through the setup process, you will need to refer to your account information listed in the email Welcome Message that was sent to you. If you do not have your account information, please email us at:  vtservice@accnet.com

About the Setup Program:

IMPORTANT:  If you know how to set up an Internet connection manually in Windows, you are free to do so. However, it is best to use our setup program which will provide you with a "dialer" that you can use to connect to the Internet. The dialer helps you to automatically keep an up-to-date list of our access phone numbers on your computer. It also keeps track of your online usage time. And it provides easy access to your Internet connection settings. The setup program does NOT add unwanted software to your computer and it only uses your normal Windows settings to create your Internet connection.

Downloading the Setup Program:

  1. Below, you will see an underlined link for the setup program. Click on the link in order to download the Internet setup software.

  2. After clicking on the link below, Internet Explorer users will see a box on the screen that says "What would you like to do with this file?". Choose "Save this program to disk" (or "Save") and click "OK".  (Netscape users might not see this box.)

  3. Next, you should see the "Save As" box. Save the file to your "Desktop" folder (choose Desktop from the drop-down list next to "Save in", then click "Save").

  4. Depending on your settings, you might see a "Download Complete" message. If so, click "Close".

Note: If you are not currently using your own computer, you can save the file to a disk or CD. Then you can take the disk to your computer and run the program right from the disk.

CLICK ON THE SETUP FILE, BELOW:
setup_vtisp.exe
Click on the underlined file name above.

Running the Setup Program:

  1. The file should now be on your computer desktop screen. It will have the same name as the link that you selected above. Close any open programs, disconnect from the Internet, and double-click the file to start the setup program.

  2. If Windows displays a security warning, click "Run".

  3. You will see a message telling you that the setup is about to begin. Click "OK".

  4. A box will pop up, allowing you to select a local access phone number. Choose your state, then your city from the drop-down lists. Click once on the phone number that you want to use and click "OK".

  5. A message will pop up, confirming your chosen access number. Click "OK".

  6. A new box will pop up. Enter your Dialup Username (Login Name). It must end with @vtisp.com . Please contact us if you do not have your Username.

  7. Enter your Dialup Password, then enter it again next to "Confirm Password".

  8. If you normally dial an area code for local phone calls, check the "10 Digit Dialing" box.

  9. If you need to dial a "9" or another number in order to get a dial tone (often used in offices or hotels), enter the number and two commas next to "To access an outside line..."  For example, enter:  9,,

  10. If you are required to dial a "1" for local phone calls (very rare, but used in New York City to name one example), enter a "1" next to "To access an outside line..."

  11. After the information on this screen has been entered, click "OK".

  12. If more than one modem is listed on your computer, you will be asked to select the appropriate modem. Click on the modem you want to use and click "OK".

  13. A message will be displayed, telling you that the setup is complete. Click "OK".

Connecting to the Internet:

  1. You will have a new icon on your desktop screen labelled "ATN Internet Dialer". To connect to the Internet, double-click that icon and click "Connect".

  2. If you are using Windows XP, as an alternative to the method above, you can click on the Start button at the bottom-left corner of your screen, click on "Connect To", click on "ATN Internet Dialer", and click the Connect button.

Disconnecting from the Internet:

  1. There are several ways to disconnect from the Internet. The first is to close all open programs that are using your Internet connection. In most cases, this means closing Internet Explorer (or the browser you use), your email program (Outlook Express, for example) if you use one, and any Instant Messenger programs you might be using. You will then be asked if you want to disconnect.

  2. Another method is to right-click on the connection icon at the bottom-right corner of your computer screen (near where the time is displayed), then click "Hang Up" or "Disconnect". The connection icon looks like two small computer screens.

  3. Or you can double-click the "ATN Internet Dialer" icon on your desktop screen, then click "Hang Up".

  4. If you are using Windows XP, you can click on the Start button at the bottom-left corner of your screen, click on "Connect To", click on "ATN Internet Dialer", and click "Disconnect".

Dialer Settings and Features:

The dialer has many options and features. However, most people will use the dialer as it is, without making changes to the settings. Some of the more common settings/features that might be used are listed below.

  1. Updating the access phone number list:  If our access phone numbers change for any reason, the dialer will automatically update your access phone number list for you. When you use the dialer, it checks to see if any changes have been made on our end. If so, it will ask you if you want to update your dialer. If you select "Yes" it will update automatically.

  2. Updating the dialer program:  If we make any changes to the dialer (for example, if we offer a new version), the dialer will automatically update as described in the previous paragraph.

  3. Keeping track of your online usage time:  One of the great features of the ATN Internet Dialer is that it will help you keep track of how much time you spend online. To view your usage, double-click on the ATN Internet Dialer icon, click the Options button, and click the Call Log button. You can view your connections for a particular month or for a date range. The total usage for the selected time period will be displayed at the bottom of the Call Log screen.  IMPORTANT: The usage displayed by the dialer is extracted from a file on your computer. It should be used as an estimate only. Your official usage time is recorded on our servers each time you connect to our service. If you always use the dialer to connect to our service and if your computer's usage file is not cleared (either purposely or accidentally), then the dialer's usage time should be very close to your actual usage time.

  4. Preventing the ATN Internet Dialer from "popping up":  By default, the ATN Internet Dialer is configured to "pop up" if you are not connected to the Internet and you start a program that attempts to use the Internet (such as a browser like Internet Explorer or an email program). If you do not want this to occur (for example, if you normally use DSL or cable Internet access and are only using our service as a backup) do the following: Double-click on the ATN Internet Dialer icon, click the Options button, and un-check the box that says, "Set as the default Internet connection".

  5. Starting your browser or email program (or not):  You can decide what should happen upon each connection to the Internet. By default, your browser program (normally Internet Explorer) will start automatically each time you connect. If you would prefer that your email program (normally Outlook Express) starts instead, double-click on the ATN Internet Dialer icon, click the Options button, un-check Auto Launch Default Browser, and check Auto Launch Default Mail Client. If you would prefer that neither your browser nor your email program starts automatically, un-check both options.

  6. Changing your browser's home page:  By default, the dialer will set your browser's "home page" to our Members Page. This means the first web page you will see each time you connect is our web page. However, you can change your home page to any web site you like. To change the home page in Internet Explorer... Start Internet Explorer. Click Tools, then click Internet Options at the top of the screen. Enter any web page you like next to "Address:" in the Home Page section (as examples, you could enter http://www.google.com or http://www.yahoo.com). Click the Apply button, then click the OK button.  IMPORTANT: If you change your home page, make sure that you know how to get to our Members Page, which is where you will find important notices regarding our service, where you can update your billing information or make online payments, where you can request or cancel service features, etc. We suggest that you visit the Members Page at least once or twice each month.

  7. Selecting access phone numbers:  If you would like to change the access phone number that your computer is dialing into, double-click on the ATN Internet Dialer icon and click the Select button. Click the Add button. Select a phone number that is within your local calling area and click "OK". Click the Move Up button until the new number is at the top of the list, then click "OK". The phone number selection screen also has options for removing access phone numbers from your list, setting up alternate phone numbers, and rearranging the order of your access numbers.

  8. Changing your dialing properties:  Please do not change these settings unless you are certain that you know what you are doing. To change your Dialing Properties (10-digit dialing, disable call waiting, tone or pulse dialing, etc.), or to set up a new Dialing Location, double-click on the ATN Internet Dialer icon and click the Properties button to access the Location Properties screen.

  9. Changing your modem properties:  Please do not change these settings unless you are certain that you know what you are doing. Advanced users can access their modem settings by double-clicking on the ATN Internet Dialer icon, clicking the Options button, and clicking the Modem tab.
